WIRE is the acronym of a wonderful networking organisation called Women in Rural Enterprise. I have to confess that I didn’t realise until this morning that it owes its existence to Prince Charles. Some years ago he became aware that there were many women on his country estates running their own businesses who would benefit from support and advice and an opportunity to meet other business women in the same boat. The result was WIRE which is now a nationwide organisation based in Harper Adams University in Shropshire with branches across the country running monthly networking events.
I was delighted to have the opportunity to give a talk at this morning’s meeting and I chose as my subject the differences between being in business as a Sole Trader and operating through a Limited Company.
It started with a short history lesson on the origins of companies in this country and ended up, of course with the potential tax savings to be had by incorporating your business. I’m delighted to say that the audience seemed to remain awake at all times and indeed several said that it was very interesting so I must have been doing something right!
